The lake this hotel sits across was renowned for its iconic vacation spots during the Borscht Belt’s "Golden Age" from the 1920s to the 1970s. The community developed around a tannery and featured several small hotels in what was called the "Silver Age" (1890-1915). Around this time, Alden Swan acquired the lake, several hotels, and a vibrant casino in the area. The most famous resort, the resort photographed on this page, opened in 1924 and was managed for many years by the Dinnerstein and Friehling families. The hotel grew significantly over the years, particularly into the 1980s, becoming a major entertainment destination. The hotel was purchased in 2015 by the Orthodox-Jewish community and is undergoing renovation with hopes of converting it into residential dwellings.
